Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D., is Dean and Professor of the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences at New York Institute of Technology. With more than 37 years of experience in engineering education, research, and academic leadership, he has played a central role in advancing the college’s national profile, including earning recognition as a Top 50 Best Undergraduate Engineering Program by U.S. News & World Report.
Under Dr. Beheshti’s leadership, the college has launched its first Ph.D. programs in computer science and engineering, expanded undergraduate and graduate offerings in areas such as artificial intelligence and civil engineering, and introduced NYIT’s first cooperative education program for undergraduates. He also established the Interuniversity Engineering Doctoral Consortium, bringing together nine leading universities to strengthen doctoral training and research collaboration.
A strong advocate for career-oriented education, Dr. Beheshti has built strategic partnerships with organizations including NASA, IBM Red Hat, Northrop Grumman, Zscaler, and Zebra Technologies. He is an active leader within IEEE, currently serving as Vice President of Educational Activities for the IEEE Education Society and Chair of the IEEE Public Visibility Committee. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
