Joe Latini is a life-long resident of Long Island. A graduate of Newfield High School, and Empire State College, Joe raised his family in the Three Village area along with his wife Jeanette. His two sons, Joseph and Michael have since begun families of their own, and have remained local Suffolk County Residents as they raise their own children. He spends his leisure time boating on Long Island Sound and enjoying time with his two young grandsons who love and adore him with all of their heart.
As the owner of Hartford Funding, one of New York’s oldest Mortgage Banks, he has been helping the residents of Long Island to build a foundation of home ownership for more than 35 years. While his work life has been immersed in New York’s Real Estate and Financial Community, he has always felt most comfort and joy around the folks he has helped to start their families and build their homes.
In mid 2014, Joe was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. While Joe receives treatment, he now finds himself in need of a bone marrow transplant and without a match on the national registry. As is the case with 70 percent of patients in need of a transplant, Joe hasn’t found a match within his family and must rely on the national registry to find a donor.
Beginning on February 26th, we hope to change that with the first of many donor drives on Long Island. For anyone between the ages of 18-55 who is interested in seeing if they are a match, all it takes is a simple cheek swab to join the national registry. It may only take you 3-5 minutes to join the registry, but for patients like Joe it could end up meaning a lifetime.
