CleanTech, HIA and You!
David Winchester, CleanTech Rocks

Over the past few years, the HIA has been an active supporter and promoter of the “Business of CleanTech” for its members and the community at large.  In 2009, the pace picked up dramatically starting with the “Business of CleanTech” luncheon held at the annual Trade Show and Conference in May. In October, the Go Green Conference was held with great success. In December, the HIA launched the Green Industries Committee to serve the needs of its members who are active in or want to enter the Green or CleanTech space.

The HIA recognizes that Long Island and New York State are well positioned to be the beneficiaries of the rapidly emerging Clean Energy Economy.  The CleanTech sector will have an increasing need for growing companies, entrepreneurs, managers, professionals and skilled technicians to capitalize on opportunities that are becoming available. Long Island and NYS have established innovative “green” policies and incentives that support market growth for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Long Island and New York State are in a race to become America’s leading Energy Innovation Hub and there is not a minute to lose!

At this year’s “Business of CleanTech” Executive Luncheon, held at the HIA Trade Show and Conference, we are bringing together NYS Leaders to discuss the recently released NYS Energy Plan which is available at www.nysenergyplan.com/

Governor David A. Paterson (Invited) will Keynote at HIA’s “Business of CleanTech” Executive Luncheon on May 27.

The Governor has worked tirelessly to move New York State to the clean energy economy and position NYS to win this race for the CleanTech prize.

“What will this New Economy mean for the people of New York? If we capitalize on our advantages, it will mean lower costs and better jobs. For every job created in the innovation sector, 3.5 additional jobs are created in the overall economy. Whether you work at a construction site or in a laboratory –you can benefit from the New Economy. But it won’t be easy. Taking our place at the head of the New Economy will require us to break with the status quo and take bold steps forward. We must start by creating a fertile environment for entrepreneurship and building a new infrastructure for innovation.

One of the primary sectors for innovation in the coming years will be energy. New York can and will become the number-one exporter of clean energy technology in the nation.

We have already set one of the world’s most ambitious clean goals. Achieving this goal will create an estimated 50,000 new jobs in New York, and we are building the nation’s strongest clean energy workforce to fill those jobs”.

Governor Paterson along with key members of his Energy team will discuss how their efforts are leading NYS towards an innovative clean energy economy. The NYS Energy Plan identifies a number of specific policy initiatives that set forth a vision for a robust and innovative clean energy economy that will stimulate investment, create jobs and meet the energy needs of residents and businesses over the next ten years.

There will be a Panel discussion following the Governors Keynote address. This distinguished panel of NYS energy leaders will discuss how NYS companies and organizations will benefit by collaborating, innovating and working together to accelerate the growth CleanTech companies which will lead to the creation of tens of thousands of Good Green Jobs.
The Executive Luncheon program will be moderated by John Kominicki, President and Publisher, Long Island Business News. The expert panelists who have agreed to participate are:
