Howard Kipnes has been an active member since 1981. Serving on the board since 1993, he has been both Second and First Vice President as well as the President of the HIA. Kipnes is Vice President of Multimatic Products, Inc., a manufacturer of high precision parts for the defense, electronic and medical industries. Developed as a subsidiary of Multimatic, Thread Check, Inc. is a manufacturer of a patented 3-Wire Thread Measuring System. Kipnes is also a successful home builder known for his North Shore Sunnydale Estates and Cedar Knolls communities. A Hauppauge Native since 1971, he graduated from Hauppauge High School and became very active in the community. He was an active Emergency Medical Technician for the Central Islip-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Years later, when Kipnes became an active HIA member, he worked to attain funding from the Town of Smithtown for ambulance service. This eventually led to the adoption of the Special Improvements District to fund ambulance service in the industrial park. Howard continues to stay active with emergency service through the HIA. "The industrial park now has its very own COPE car designed as a medical first responder." "The HIA's success can be attributed to the tremendously proactive membership and the different committees." According to Kipnes, "The Board of Directors is able to get things done as a group. When they get in a room, it is business first and business for the organizations." Kipnes notes, "By the time most groups have studied an issue, the HIA has acted on it. This is primarily due to the commitment by the members and Board of Directors and special talents of the Executive Director, Marcy Tublisky, and the staff. It is amazing what the staff is able to accomplish." An active member of the Energy Committee, Kipnes worked with Jack Kulka and Arthur Sanders to represent Long Island's best interests regarding electric power rates. Recently the HIA held a meeting with KeySpan to see how the concept of cogeneration could fit in the industrial park. According to Kipnes, "the HIA is on the forefront in keeping up with changes that will occur with the utility industries." As a representative of the HIA, Kipnes served on the Board of Directors of the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers. In 1996, he graduated from the Suffolk County Citizens' Police Academy after completing a 13-week program in which community members are exposed to all facets of the police department to better understand how the department operates. In addition to his work at the HIA, Kipnes serves on the Board of the Long Island Builders Institute. He has been a member for eight years and served on the Board of Directors for four. Howard's hobbies include bicycling, hunting and fishing. He enjoys spending time exploring the east end beaches and communities with his wife, MaryEllen and their two sons, Alec and Jordan. They reside in Stony Brook.
